South Padre Island
The Laguna Madre Area is the tropical tip of Texas. The Lone Star State's only true tropical isle. South Padre Island is a coastal resort town on the Gulf of Mexico with five miles of seashore fun, shopping, dining and water activities. This area is bordered by the Laguna Madre bay and is ecologically significant with 34 miles of sand dunes, water birds, shrimp, and the best deep-sea fishing in Texas.
Port Isabel
Port Isabel is a quaint fishing village of 5000 people that is separated by a 2.4 mile bridge from South Padre Island. It lies on the eastern end of the Rio Grande Valley at the Brazos-Santiago Pass to the Gulf of Mexico, and is about 30 miles from the border city of Matamoros, Mexico. Port Isabel is known for it's unique charm and culture with a rich history in the shrimping and fishing industry. It is located 35 miles east of Harlingen and 22 miles northeast of Brownsville, Texas.
